Starter Output Fault
engine
Description
The starter output is stuck ON when the starter motor should not be running; the unit requires shutdown and shows DISCONNECT STARTER.
Activation Conditions
Starter Output Relay / FET is OFF, and Relay / FET Feedback Voltage is above Minimum ON Threshold Activation of this alarm is triggered when the control system has detected that the starter output is stuck ON when the starter motor should not be running. When activated, the starter motor may continue to run even if the APU is turned OFF. The starter solenoid disconnect and/or battery cables must immediately be disconnected if this alarm is activated. Use caution when disconnecting the starter solenoid disconnect and battery cables DO NOT return the equipment to service until a repair has been made!
Unit Behavior
REQUIRED SHUTDOWN Display message of "DISCONNECT STARTER" For the first occurrence, Prestart (Buzzer) will be activated one second ON and one second OFF until Alarm Reset Alarm will carry over on power cycle. If Alarm 2006 occurs second time in one hour, the alarm is non-clearable from the AI; Prestart (Buzzer) will be activated one second ON and 1 second OFF until APU is switched OFF.
Reset Conditions
Alarm reset or 15 minutes timeout on first occurrence. Technician reset through CabinTech after second occurrence
Corrective Actions
1. Disconnect (Starter Solenoid Disconnect) SSD located near APU flywheel. If the starter motor continues to run, disconnect both the positive and negative battery cables. 2. Check for voltage between APU module side of SSD and starter ground. If voltage is present, go to step 4. 3. Check for voltage between starter side of SSD and starter ground. If voltage is present, go to step 5. 4. Remove wire from J2:3 and reconnect J2 to the APU module. Check for voltage at APU module side of SSD. If voltage is present, check APU harness for short to power between APU module and SSD. If voltage is NOT present, replace the APU module. 5. Disconnect starter solenoid connector, and check for voltage between SSD and starter ground. If voltage is present, check APU harness between SSD and starter for short to power. If voltage is NOT present, go to step 6. Replace starter motor.
